One of the bright spots of the last ten months has been all the books I’ve finally had time to read. I have no particular criterion for picking my next read, and have read from picture books to adult fare, fiction and nonfiction. I read somewhere that in all the educational upheaval kids have gone through this year, their reading scores have actually increased markedly.
Just in case you’re looking for a recommendation, here are a few of my favorites–though there have been too many to list all of them. They are mostly fairly newly published books:
Picture and board books:
If You Come to Earth – Sophie Blackall
You Matter – Christian Robinson
A Friend for Henry – Jenn Baily/Mika Song
Saturday – Oge Mora
Early and Middle Grade:
*Pizza and Taco: Who’s the Best? – Stephen Shaskan
Prairie Lotus – Linda Sue Park
Chance – Uri Shulevitz
Nowhere Boy – Katherine Marsh
A Place at the Table – Saadia Faruqi/Laura Shovan
*Becoming RBG: Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s Journey to Justice – Debbie Levy/Whitney Gardner
Refugee – Alan Gratz
Young Adult:
The Assignment – Liza Weimer
The Enigma Game – Elizabeth Wein
And let me throw in a few adult titles:
The entire Inspector Gamache series (Louise Penny), starting with Still Life
The Splendid and the Vile – Erik Larson
Anxious People – Fredrik Backman
Freedom’s Daughters – Lynne Olson
* Graphic Novel
